The Always Giving Yank Barry: From Music to Meals

April 30, 2017

He has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize three times, in part because Yank Berry's philanthropic efforts are different than most. That is one reason that he has received numerous awards and accolades from all corners of the world over the last couple of decades. In addition to the Nobel, Yank Barry has received humanitarian awards from Mexico, the Bahamas, India and Côte D'Ivoire. In fact, very recently, Yank and his wife Yvette Barry received the very prestigious Childhelp International Achievement Award for their humanitarian work.

His approach to philanthropy, as noted, is different, and a key reason why his work has come to the attention of the media so many times. He has been profiled on CNN, NBC, The Jerusalem Post and many other news outlets throughout the world. And they were likely attracted to his vision. You see, Yank Barry doesn’t just write a check or fund a few grants and leave it at that. He insists on doing a lot of the work himself and getting out there on the front lines, so that he can see that his help goes to where it is needed.

For example, over the last several years, his efforts have been focused on helping to save as many refugees as possible from war-torn areas of Iraq, Iran and Syria. With his assistance, much of it supplied by his own hand, thousands of refugees have been able to escape much of the violence and volatility caused by groups like ISIS. He has been able to provide many with food, a home, medical supplies and whatever else they may need to rebuild their lives and to save their families.
